Highlights of the 7-Day Kenya safari
7-Days Kenyan Safari – Ol Pejeta, Lake Nakuru, Lake Naivasha
and Masai Mara
Day 1: Nairobi to the Equator at Ol Pejeta Conservancy
Your
7-days safari holidays begin
with a pick up from Nairobi (either at the airport or your hotel at 8 am) and
then proceed to the Equator in Mt. Kenya region arriving for lunch. Enjoy an
afternoon game drive at this private game ranch. Ol Pejeta Conservancy is the
only in Kenyan wildlife sanctuary for rehabilitation of these widely abused
chimpanzees. It has two groups existing in an environmental setting as close to
their natural habitat as possible. The site is also a dedicated black rhino
breeding area. Dinner and overnight stay at Sweetwater’s Serena Camp, L, D.
Day 2: Ol Pejeta Conservancy, home to Chimpanzees and
Rhinoceros.
You
will have a full day at Sweetwater with morning and afternoon game drive. This
provides you an ample time to explore this sanctuary as you marvel at the
magnificent sights of the snow-capped Mt. Kenya peaks. Game drives at Sweetwater
are indeed a pleasure. Here, there are optional activities such as game walks
accompanied by Resident Naturalist and game rides on horseback or Camel riding
and night game drives. These optional activities are at an extra fee payable
locally. The Sweetwater Chimpanzee Sanctuary is incorporated within the Ol
Pejeta Conservancy. This is unique in a way, as it is the only location in
Kenya where this highly endangered and remarkably intelligent species can be
seen. Dinner and overnight stay at Serena Sweetwater Tented Camp, B, L, D.
Day 3: Ol Pejeta Conservancy to Lake Nakuru National park,
famed for flamingos.
An
early breakfast you then depart to Lake Nakuru National Park with a stop at
Nyahururu Falls, arriving in good time for lunch at your lodge. Full afternoon
game drives to see flamingos, rhinoceros, and baboons among other animals. Lake
Nakuru’s rise to fame is anchored on its flamingo’s and has the more than 400
bird species. The lake itself is a soda lake aptly situated on the floor of the
Great Rift Valley. The millions of flamingos on this lake are quite
spectacular. Viewing this from a distance, the lake appears ringed-pink. The
park is also popular as an important sanctuary for the endangered species,
particularly the black and white rhino and the Rothschild Giraffe. Buffalo,
waterbuck, Lions, and baboons are all seen here. Dinner and night at Lake
Nakuru Lodge, B, L, D.
Day 4: Lake Nakuru to Lake Naivasha and walking on Crescent
Island as you explore this hidden gem
Breakfast
then depart for a short drive to Lake Naivasha for lunch. This is then followed
by a sunset boat cruise to see the snorting Hippos and a nature walk on
Crescent Island which is an excellent way to see and explore wild animals
(herbivores) while on foot. The Island is a private game sanctuary, which is
home to giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, gazelle, Genet, Velvet monkeys, hares and
waterbuck. Overnight at Lake Naivasha Sopa Resort, B, L, D.
Day 5: Lake Naivasha to Maasai Mara Game Reserve, the Great
Wildebeest migration
We
depart the lodge soon after breakfast and driven to the Maasai Mara with an
arrival in good time for a buffet lunch. Late afternoon game drives. The Maasai
Mara offers variety and abundance of wildlife; it is difficult to believe there
are over 450 species of animals that have been recorded here. During your
Maasai Mara tour, you will easily see giraffe, lions, hippos, rhinos,
crocodiles, elephants, wildebeests, zebras, buffalo, hyenas, jackals, warthogs,
wild dogs, many kinds of antelopes and the elusive leopard. It is perhaps the
most spectacular wildebeest migration, a natural world event that takes place
here every July to October. The migration of millions of wildebeest and zebra
from the Serengeti (Tanzania) in search of water and pasture is an impressive
event. Dinner and overnight stay at Mara Sopa Lodge, B, L, D.
Day 6: The Legendary Maasai Mara National Reserve to explore
its natural beauty and wildlife.
The full day is spent exploring Maasai Mara in search of the big 5 and the hippos and crocodiles along the Mara River. Maasai Mara is no doubt the Kenya’s finest wildlife haven. Night will be at Mara Sopa Lodge, B, L, and D.
