We
start this walk in the Highlands of Ngorongoro where the mountains collect
moisture year round and keep the grass green and the wildlife resident. The
Highlands have extraordinary views of the surrounding plains and offer
ample opportunity for cultural interaction with the Maasai. In this
itinerary we explore the highlands then move down the slope of the mountain
towards the Serengeti. We end on the edge of the mountain ecosystem where
we can hopefully stalk plains game. Our "Wilderness Camp" is
supported by pick-up trucks.
Day
1: Lemagrut Mountain Camp 1.
Move into the walking camp on the slopes of Lemagrut mountain in the
Ngorongoro Highlands after your Ngorongoro game drive. This camp, about 30
min from the Ngorongoro Crater rim, has spectacular views of the highlands
and plenty of wildlife and Maasai.
