13 days Kenya Wildlife Trail
Departure every Mondays
A safari to the best game parks in
Kenya including the world famous bird’s sanctuaries of the Great Rift Valley
lakes before dropping you at the Coast to enjoy sun and sand at leisure in
the beautiful beaches of Mombasa, Malindi and Lamu.
Day1: Nairobi/Samburu:
We depart Nairobi in the morning and
drive north via the shoulder of Mt Kenya to Samburu Game Reserve. Samburu Game
Reserve is a semi-arid area with open savanna grassland along the Uaso Nyiro
River which supports plenty of wildlife. Overnight at a campsite (LD)
Day2: Samburu:
The day is spent game viewing in the
Samburu game reserve and the neighboring Buffalo Springs game reserve with
morning and afternoon game drives. Elephants abound; also available are lion,
leopard, cheetah, reticulated giraffe, buffalo, gerenuk, gravy’s zebra, Somali
ostrich, Oryx and crocodile. Overnight at a campsite (BLD)
Day3: Samburu/ Lake Baringo:
Leave Samburu early morning and make
a scenic drive to the west across the Lerochi Plateau, (lunch enroute) and
after descend to the floor of the Great Rift Valley, reaching at Lake Baringo
in the afternoon. Lake Baringo is a fresh water lake with an abundance of
birdlife as well as hippos and crocodiles. Lake Baringo is a world famous
bird-watching centre. Have a boat ride in Lake Baringo weather permitting.
Overnight at a campsite (BLD)
Day4: Baringo/Lake Nakuru:
Early morning we drive south via
Lake Bogoria (30km) which is a shallow soda lake with picturesque scenic
scenery inhabited by many flamingoes and other species of birds- a Ramsar site.
The highlight, however, is the boiling hot springs and geysers. After lunch we
drive to Lake Nakuru in the south - another shallow soda lake which has been
described as “an ornithologist’s paradise and one of the world’s most
magnificent sights". At Lake Nakuru sometimes one has an opportunity to
see up to two million flamingoes besides tens of thousands of other birds. Lake
Nakuru is also a rhino sanctuary with both black and white rhinos. Lake Nakuru
also harbors lions, warthogs, waterbucks, buffaloes, hippo and many other
animals. Overnight at a campsite outside town (BLD)
Days 5 & 6: Nakuru/ Masai
Mara:
We drive south via Narok, setting
our camp at the edge of Masai Mara by afternoon followed by game drive time
allowing. We explore Masai Mara’s amazingly high concentration of game
(throughout the year) from the back of your tour vehicle next day with a
morning and afternoon game drive. Your experienced professional driver tour
guide will help you to spot the animals. The Masai Mara Game Reserve is 1510sq
km of open rolling grasslands dotted with the acacia trees and harboring lions,
leopards, cheetah, elephants, buffaloes, zebras, Maasai giraffes, hippos, black
rhinos, spotted hyenas many. Also you may visit a Masai village for a
cultural insight at a fee (BLD)
Day7: Masai Mara/Nairobi:
We break camp and drive to Narok
where Masai souvenirs can be bought and then proceed to Nairobi, arriving in
the afternoon. Overnight in a hotel/ campsite of your choice (BL)
Day8: Nairobi/Amboseli:
Day8: Nairobi/Amboseli:
Morning drive to Amboseli by early
afternoon. We view game as we head to the campsite (BLD)
Day9: Amboseli:
Day9: Amboseli:
Day spent viewing game in the
morning and afternoon. Amboseli (392 sq km) is not a big park but supported by
swamp vegetation it harbors elephants, buffaloes, hippos, lions, cheetahs,
hyenas, jackals, gazelles, wildebeests, warthogs, zebras, ostriches and Masai
giraffes in the background of the magnificent snow caped Mt. Kilimanjaro. The
waters from melted snow find their way down the mountain under lava flows and
surface on the Amboseli plains in form of swamps (BLD)
Day10: Amboseli/Tsavo West
After breakfast we head for Tsavo
West National Park. Visit the Chyulu Hills and the Mzima Springs which are
favorite haunts for both the hippo and crocodile, which can be seen from an
underwater observation chamber if time permits. Overnight in a campsite (BLD)
Day11: Tsavo West
Day spent exploring Tsavo West
including the nature trails. Tsavo west is not a place where animals can be
readily seen due to heavy undergrowth and hence a little patience and effort is
required to spot the game. However there is compensation for that in scenic
landscapes, a bit wilder animals and fewer tourists than the other famous parks
(BLD)
Day12: Tsavo West/Tsavo East:
Early morning drive to Tsavo
East. Tsavo West is famous for its great herds of elephant that are
usually covered in red dust and also a variety of game and fine scenery. We
visit Lugard Falls, Mundanda Rocks and Aruba Dam as we view game if time
permits. However much of the action in Tsavo East is concentrated along the
Galana and Voi rivers that provide the green pastures that sustain the wildlife
in an otherwise very arid and dusty park (BLD)
Day13: Tsavo East/Mombasa:
Early morning game drive followed by
breakfast after which we drive to Mombasa arriving there in time for Pax to
find their way into their hotels and the tour ends (BL)
