Climb
A climb to the highest mountain in Kenya and
the second-highest in Africa after Kilimanjaro. The main peaks of the mountain
are Batian (5,199 meters (17,057 ft)), Nelion (5,188 meters (17,021 ft)) and
Point Lenana (4,985 meters (16,355 ft)). It is located in central Kenya, the
heart of Kenya, about 16.5 kilometers (10.3 mi) south of the equator, around
150 kilometers (93 mi) north-northeast of the capital City Nairobi. The
Republic of Kenya derives its name from the mountain. The Kikuyu live on the
southern side of the foot of Mt. Kenya which is also the seat of their God Ngai
-Mwene Nyaga.
Day1: Judmaier’s Camp.
We arrive at the mountain climbing base by
10.00a.m where you meet your guides and porters to assist you in sorting out
the climbing equipment and gear. After start sorting and organizing personal
equipment for the mountain trek we drive to the Sirimon Park Gate where you
sign and start a 3hrs hike through the equatorial forest to the camp for
overnight (3,300m). This is an easy trek in the afternoon to help
acclimatization. We overnight Judmaier Camp (3300m) in the high altitude
mountain tents.
Day2: Ship ton’s Camp
Hike up to the Mackinder Valley one of the
broadest valley and get spectacular view of the main peaks –Batian and Nelion.
Light lunch is served on the way. We overnight at Ship ton’s camp just below
the main peaks (walking time approximately 6-7 hours and overnight in high
altitude tents on full board basis- 4,200m)
Day3: Minto’s Camp
We make a pre-dawn alpine climb to the third
highest peak, Pt. Lenana (4985m) via the north face route. Four hours of
walking to the summit to be on the top for sunrise and clear view. Then descend
to Minto’s camp for breakfast and rest. In the afternoon have walk down to
Vivian falls, Lake Michael son enjoying great views of the Gorges valley. Back
to the camp for dinner and overnight in tents (4,300m).
Day4: Meru Bandas
After breakfast descend down through the
moorland to Mount Kenya Meru Bandas for overnight in camp –walking time 5-6 hrs
(3,300m)
Day5: Nairobi.
After breakfast you will be picked by vehicle
from Meru Bandas and drive through beautiful natural forest to Chogoria town.
Be picked by Africa Natural Tours vehicle and be transferred to Nairobi.
