Mountains 5 Days Trek Itinerary
Tucked away in northeastern Tanzania, the Usambara are among the most biodiversity regions in the world. Covered by a thick canopy of tropical forest, the mountains offer terrain and wildlife uncommon throughout the rest of Africa. Using public transport and your own feet, this adventure will take you deep into the hills to isolated villages to meet the people who make this unique land their home, lodging in basic guesthouses along the route. Day
1: Airport to Lushoto (4hrs drive)
In the morning at 7:30 am depart from Airport (Kilimanjaro International Airport or Dar es salaam International Airport) to Lushoto West Usambara where you will arrive in the early afternoon for lunch. Afternoon walk or drive to Irente viewpoint) and Irente Farm. The farmers produce many types of fruits and vegetables. Dinner and overnight will be at Eddies Lodge FB Day 2: Lushoto-Magamba forest Malindi village(4-6hrs walking)
Breakfast
followed by walking to the Magamba rainforest, visit an old stanch dug by the
German during World War 1, the guide will provide an explanation of German
and British Colonial history. Proceed on walking through the rainforest of
Magamba via Lukozi village to Malindi village for dinner and overnight at
Irente View Cliff Lodge FB
Day 3: Malindi village-Rangwi village ( 4-6 hrs walking)
Breakfast,
then walk along valleys and sloping hillsides of the inner Usambara Mountain
passing by the vegetable farms lined with eucalyptus
and banana trees. You will pass thru the villages of Makose and Kagulio, proceed to Rangwi for dinner and overnight at Mambo View Point Eco Lodge FB
Day 4: Rangwi-Mtae village (4-5hrs walking)
After
breakfast walk to Mtae via Sunga village and thru Shengayu forest, on the way
you will see Mamboleo village, these villages are well known for their soil
conservation and traditional irrigation project which concentrate on the
development of stone and bench terraces to improve farming, thorough
explanation by your guide on how the people of Shambaa tribe living in the
area do keep their surrounding environment. Dinner and overnight will be at
Mambo View Point Eco Lodge FB
Day 5: Mtae-Lushoto to hotel
Wake up
at 0600hrs for early morning breakfast, after breakfast check out from Mtae
and transfer by Private vehicle to a reserved hotel.
