2nights 3 days to Meru National Park
Meru National
Park is located to the north of Mt. Kenya some 350 km from Nairobi. With an
area of 870 km², it is one of the best known National Parks in Kenya. It has
abundant rainfall in the west of the park but tends to lessen towards the east
part of the park. Hence the park offers dense riverine forests of doum and
raffia palm and is mainly thorny bush land in the north, wooded grasslands in
the west and open grassland in the rest.
Little visited
it is utterly un-spoilt and quiet. Hence few places are comparable to the
remote and rugged atmosphere found here. Animals found in Meru national park
expected to be seen by visitors include the African bush elephant, Masai lion,
African leopard, Tanzanian cheetah, eastern black rhinoceros, southern white
rhinoceros, Gravy’s zebra, hippos, Bohor reedbucks, hartebeests, pythons, puff
adders, cobras, buffalos and more than 427 species of birds. Again Meru
National Park was one of the two areas in which conservationists George Adamson
and Joy Adamson raised Elsa the Lioness made famous in the bestseller book and
award winning movie Born Free. Elsa the Lioness is buried in this park and part
of Joy's ashes were scattered on her gravesite. Meru National Park
accommodation include Leopard Rock, Elsa Kopje, Rhino River Camp and Ikweta
Safari Camp
