7 days Samburu Great Rift Valley Lakes & Masai Mara
Departs Mondays
A safari to the north via the high
shoulder of Mountain Kenya to Samburu Game Reserve followed by the world famous
ornithological Great Rift Valley Lakes of Baringo, Bogoria and Nakuru, then
south over the Mau Escarpment to Kenya’s greatest concentration of wildlife all
year round - the Masai Mara and home to the spectacular great wildebeest
migration and the ‘7th wonder of the world’
Day1: Nairobi/Samburu:
We depart Nairobi in the morning and
drive north via the shoulder of Mt Kenya to Samburu Game Reserve. Samburu Game
Reserve is a semi-arid area with open savanna grassland along the Uaso Nyiro
River which supports plenty of wildlife.
Day2: Samburu:
The day is spent game viewing in the
Samburu game park. Elephants abound; you may see lion, leopard, cheetah,
reticulated giraffe, buffalo, gerenuk, gravy’s zebra, Somali ostrich, Oryx and
crocodile.
Day3: Samburu/ Baringo:
Day3: Samburu/ Baringo:
Leave Samburu early morning and make
a scenic drive to the west across the Lerochi Plateau, (lunch enroute) and
after descend to the floor of the Great Rift Valley, reaching at Lake Baringo
in the afternoon. Lake Baringo is a fresh water lake with an abundance of
birdlife as well as hippos and crocodiles. Lake Baringo is a world famous
bird-watching centre. Have a boat ride in Lake Baringo weather permitting.
Day4: Baringo/ Lake Nakuru:
Early morning we drive south via
Lake Bogoria (30km) which is a shallow soda lake with picturesque scenic
scenery inhabited by many flamingoes and other species of birds- a Ramsar site.
The highlight, however, is the boiling hot springs and geysers. After lunch we
drive to Lake Nakuru in the south - another shallow soda lake which has been
described as "an ornithologist’s paradise and one of the world’s most
magnificent sights". At Lake Nakuru sometimes one has an opportunity to
see up to two million flamingoes besides tens of thousands of other birds. Lake
Nakuru is also a sanctuary for both the rhino and the Rothschild giraffe. Both
black and white rhinos can be seen. Lake Nakuru also harbors lions, warthogs,
waterbucks, buffaloes, hippo and many other animals. Dinner and overnight in a
campsite outside town
Days5 & 6: Nakuru/Masai Mara:
We drive south via Narok, setting
our camp at the edge of Masai Mara by afternoon followed by game drive time
allowing. We explore Masai Mara’s amazingly high concentration of game
(throughout the year) from the back of your tour vehicle next day with a
morning and afternoon game drive. Your experienced professional driver tour
guide will help you to spot the animals. The Masai Mara Game Reserve is 1510sq
km of open rolling grasslands dotted with the acacia trees and harboring lions,
leopards, cheetah, elephants, buffaloes, zebras, Maasai giraffes, hippos, black
rhinos, spotted hyenas many. Also you may visit a Masai village for a
cultural insight at a fee
Day7: Masai Mara/Nairobi:
We break camp and drive to Narok
